There has been an increasing interest and concern over the potential positive and negative impacts of trade liberlization, particularly on the environment and social fabric of developing countries where trade has grown most rapidly. The countries were chosen on the basis of ensuring a diversity of experiences as well as a capacity to implement these studies.
