Tessa and the Fishy Mystery is part of the Tunza Environmental Series for Children, sponsored by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). "Tunza" means " to treat with care of affection" in Kiswahili. UNEP hopes to inspire caring for the Earth through creative literature that sparks the interest and awareness of children, their parents and teachers.
Tessa and the Fishy Mystery is beautifully illustrated by the well known illustrator Adrienne Kennaway. It has a simple, poetic style that makes the story easy to read and will appeal to a 7-11 year old age range.
The story tells of a girl, Tessa, and her local environment which changes gradually through the results of human activities that lead to pollution. It then follows her journey of discovery to the realisation that by her community working together, and changing a few basic parts of their lifestyle, they could return their environment to how it once was.
The book ends with some useful facts and figures on seas and oceans which will help to interest and inform the reader.
