This Handbook is intended to enable national judges in all types of tribunals in both civil law and common law jurisdictions to identify environmental issues coming before them and to be aware of the range of options available to them in interpreting and applying the law.

This publication is designed to meet the demand for legal information and material, and serve as a source of reference of basic documents on international environmental law. The Environmental Law Branch of the Division of Policy Development and Law has provided support in the area of capacity building, including the production of publications on environmental law at both national and international levels.

A reference document designed for use by ODS officers and legal officers in Article 5 countries responsible for structuring and drafting of regulations to control and eliminate the use of ODS. It provides a brief overview of the structure and strategies in existing ODS regulations, which encompasses all governmental directives of a legally-binding nature.

The Compendium of Environmental Law of African Countries is prepared by ELI/PAC under the auspices of the UNEP/UNDP Joint Project on Environmental Law and Institutions in Africa which is funded by the Dutch Government. The object of the Joint Project is to mobilize the expertise and guidance of six different agencies in working with selected African countries towards the enhancement of their legal and institutional capabilities in the field of environmental law.
