The Sub-Committee took note of recent developments concerning international trade in fishery products. It also considered specific issues related to international trade and sustainable fisheries development.

The purpose of the Expert Consultation was to generate practical guidance regarding the range of funding arrangements that are available for funding fisheries management as part of FAO's ongoing efforts to assist countries in the implementation of the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries.

This document contains the report of the three workshops as well as information provided by the participants. Together with the actions adopted, it can serve as a basis for further work aimed at improving regional fisheries management of fishing capacity.

The objective of the Workshop was to develop national capacity and promote bilateral, subregional and/or regional coordination so that countries would be better placed to strengthen and harmonize port State measures.

Many rivers, lakes and other inland waters have been modified and degraded by human activities. Rehabilitation of degraded systems are needed to preserve ecosystem services and fisheries and are of a high priority if the aquatic biodiversity of inland waters is to be conserved. This booklet provides guidelines examines technical solutions for rehabilitation, within the frame of responsible fisheries.

The purpose of these guidelines is to aid stakeholders and fisheries managers in the development of national and regional plans of action for the management of fishing capacities, in order to align fishing capacity with the sustainable use of fish stocks.
