Presents 21 case studies documenting actual elimination of CFC-113 and 1,1,1-trichloroethane from industrial solvent applications in companies from nine countries: Canada, Denmark, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand and the United States. The case studies provide descriptions of the company, its uses of Ozone Depleting Substances, the methods employed to reduce or eliminate the use of these solvents, the costs of the conversion to alternatives, and the applicability of the case study to developing countries.

Shares the experience of government and industry in four Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden) to phase out ODS. These case studies provide examples of how these four countries have approached refrigerant management through a combination of voluntary and regulatory measures. Each case study provides background about the country’s refrigeration sector, a description of the government’s strategies and regulations, an overview of how industry and government have cooperated on this issue, key features of the national strategy, and a summary of the country’s experience with management of ozone depleting refrigerants.
